A Science careers day for BCA (Berkshire College of Agriculture), Students.  The event is open to all students who are 15yrs+ and interested in exploring STEM career options.

The day will include:

  • Medical Mavericks:  A Hospital Simulation and Challenge the Champions practical events - with a careers education theme
  • A workshop on higher apprenticeships to explore alternative options, within the world of STEM
  • Employability and career advice interactive talk
  • A hands-on STEM workshop delivered by a local STEM employer

Free Parents & Student STEM Career Evening

The event is open to all parents and students who are interested in exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) career options.

The evening will include:

  • STEM Employer stands to discuss career options within local companies (including the Ministry of Defence, QA, GlaxoSmithKline and others)
  • A workshop on higher apprenticeships to explore alternative options, within the world of STEM
  • Employability and career advice– Getting Ready for the Work Place
  • A hands-on STEM workshop in a laboratory
  • Careers advice and information on how psychometric testing can help plan careers

This event is a combined venture with the Berkshire College of Agriculture and the Worlds of Opportunity (WOOP) project, which is looking to close the Berkshire STEM skills gap, to support the local business talent pipeline.  

WOOP is funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency and European Social Fund and brought to you by Adviza in partnership with Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership

STEM Hands-on Careers Event

A FREE hands-on STEM careers day for local schools, at the BCA (Berkshire College of Agriculture), in Maidenhead.  The event is open to all students who are 15yrs+ and interested in exploring STEM career options.

The day will include:

  • Medical Mavericks:  A hands on workshop where students can take blood, record and print an ECG, try keyhole surgery, see inside their body with an ultrasound machine and take a picture of the inside of their eye! This introduces dozens of careers in the NHS to your students.
  • A workshop on higher apprenticeships to explore alternative options, within the world of STEM
  • Employability and career advice interactive talk
  • A hands-on STEM workshop delivered by a local STEM employer

STEM Careers Afternoon - Reading

Come along to find out about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in the Berkshire area.

Meet employers, including: Vodafone, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (British Army), Royal Navy, Atkins, Royal Berkshire Hospital, UK Atomic Energy Association and Peter Brett Associates. The REME are bringing along a helicopter engine and a virtual reality welding activity.

We have talks about Women in STEM, civil engineering careers and working in scientific research from representatives from the University of Reading and the University of Oxford.

See demonstrations of digital mixing desks from SAE Institute and find out about technology in the music and media industry.  

You can find out about routes into the career you want via college courses, training, higher education or apprenticeships and get careers advice from our industry experts.

All this, plus dancing robots, spooky science and much more!

Employers will be on hand to engage with students through a range of hands on activities and discussions to raise awareness of entry levels, expectations and ways into work within various roles.

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in Pathway presentations to explore Post 16 options and to hear more about WOOP opportunities in their area.

Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a range of business volunteers to find out more about opportunities that exist specifically within the Maths sector of STEM.

The event will include workshops on careers in banking, information and guidance about careers available in the Maths sector and a hands-on Maths-related activity. It will also provide students with the opportunity to take part in a personal finance workshop.

The event will end with a Q&A session where students will interact with business volunteers across a variety of careers. This is the perfect event to meet some top employers, and develop a better understanding of STEM in the world of work.
