After a plenary session where students will be shown the fundamental principles of building a level.  Each group will then be tasked with making levels in their game before feedback is provided and finally they will make a version of the game available to play online.

Explore our careers area and meet local employers including Peter Brett Associates, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (British Army), South Central Ambulance Service, Activate Apprenticeships, Cisco and many more. Engage in conceptual design workshops with experienced engineers and hear from current students and recent graduates about their journeys into STEAM career pathways. You can also find out about routes into the career you want via college programmes, training, higher education or apprenticeships, and get careers advice from our industry experts and educators.

At this event students got to use real medical kit to find out what goes on in a hospital. They were able to use: an ECG to record their heart, an ultrasound machine to see images of the inside of their body.

As well as the usual doctors, nurses and paramedics, the main focus will be on Healthcare Science careers that are responsible for 85% of all the diagnostic tests in the NHS.

Students found out about Physiology, Lab Science, Medical Physics, Medical Engineering and Bioinformatics, there was something for everyone that likes science, engineering, maths, IT & computing.

Post-15 students from local schools   will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a range of businesses to find out more about opportunities that exist within the range of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM). 

Employers will be on hand to engage with students through a range of hands on activities and discussions to raise awareness of entry levels, expectations and ways into work within various roles. 

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in Pathway presentations to explore Post 16 STEAM options and to hear more about WOOP opportunities in their area.

The Great STEM & Progression Event (2 Days) - Newbury College

Note: this March event is over 2 days: Monday 26th 11am - 6:30pm & Tues 27th 11am - 3pm 

Employers from STEM industries are attending on 26/27 March to help promote careers in Science, Technology and Engineering.

Each day will include employer exhibits, keynote speakers, interactive workshops and apprenticeship information.

Universities will showcase STEM courses.

Monday focuses on the following industries: engineering, technology, construction,            finance, maths and apprenticeships.

Tuesday focuses on IT, graphic & digital media, art, animal care, health & social care and sports science.

Open to students Year 11 upwards.

This is a fantastic opportunity to hear what it is really like to work in industry and how you could do the same!

There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the talk.

After this event you can also take part in the Reading College Technology Taster event which is running from 6 – 7.30pm to find out about our study programmes at the college.

Build Up Your Business

Build up your Business provides young people aged 15+ with the opportunity to learn about craft, technical design and management roles and employability skills within the Construction Industry. Up to 144 students in teams of 12 work through a business simulation to develop a piece of land in Reading,, construct a desktop building model and start a business idea. Working together in a different and challenging environment with business facilitators, to solve problems and make choices culminating in a finished project.  Under very tight budget and time constraints, they take on a business role such as Project Manager, Construction Manager, Architect, Environmental Officer and Quantity Surveyor amongst others, to create and present a successful business.

The event is open to all parents and students who are interested in exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) career options.

A FREE hands-on STEM careers day for local schools, at the BCA (Berkshire College of Agriculture), in Maidenhead.  The event is open to all students who are 15yrs+ and interested in exploring STEM career options.

The day will include:

  • Medical Mavericks:  A hands on workshop where students can take blood, record and print an ECG, try keyhole surgery, see inside their body with an ultrasound machine and take a picture of the inside of their eye! This introduces dozens of careers in the NHS to your students.
  • A workshop on higher apprenticeships to explore alternative options, within the world of STEM
  • Employability and career advice interactive talk
  • A hands-on STEM workshop delivered by a local STEM employer
